Sunscreen Beauty Battle: Coola vs Supergoop

Beauty Battles are posts or videos where I pit two similar products against one another. I give my review on each product and choose my favorite, or the clear winner. I was recently asked to try and review some sunscreens, so I jumped at the chance to make this video/post.

Today we are continuing our special edition of Beauty Battle. I have selected four sunscreens that were highly rated and best sellers from both Ulta and Sephora. Through the subsequent battles we will find our clear winner out of the four. Today will be round two, you can check out round one here.

I have been wearing these four off and on for weeks now. I have worn them alone, on top of my normal daytime skincare routine, and with foundation and powder on top. I’ve worn them about my normal day at home on the weekends, I have worn them throughout my normal day at work where I am both in and out of the sun and I have worn them in full sun while at the Disney parks. Needless to say I have really put them to the test.

While reviewing these I’m looking at texture, coverage, scent, how well they reacted with my skin and other products, whether they felt heavy or greasy and how well they did at protecting my skin. So let’s dive into the first two (as always if you wish to purchase these or learn more, click the picture or the posted links).

COOLA Mineral Face SPF 30 – Cucumber Matte

What They Say:

Coola Mineral Face SPF 30 is a Farm to Face® organic sunscreen moisturizer featuring fortified broad-spectrum sun protection that feels unbelievably light on skin.

Designed for those long active days in the sun—light enough for everyday use! Plant-derived oleosome technology optimizes the performance of this formula, while antioxidant-rich Plant Protection® helps fight free radicals and hydrate and nourish the skin barrier. It’s water-resistant up to 40 minutes.

My Review:

This is the winner of Round One and it really came down to the texture and scent. Overall, I felt this one covered and protected well without feeling heavy or greasy. I didn’t even feel like I was wearing a sunscreen when I had this one on.

It is thick and creamy but absorbs quickly into the skin leaving a soft powdery finish that helps give that matte finish. The matte finish of this was my favorite part. This feels so light and fresh on the skin and if you are more oily, you will love the matte finish it gives.

The scent of this is lovely too. No typical sunscreen chemically smell.

100% Mineral Invincible Setting Powder SPF

What They Say:

A setting powder that provides 100 percent mineral broad-spectrum UV protection with a flawless, satin finish—perfect for setting your makeup and re-applying SPF in just one step.

This silky, super-soft powder goes on smooth and sheer to minimize oil and shine. Formulated with non-drying ingredients, the application leaves you with a soft focus matte finish, blurring the look of fine lines and imperfections. It’s perfect for on-the-go SPF protection and achieving a flawless-looking complexion. With the reimagined formula also comes a broad shade range to ensure every skin tone gets a perfect finish. Meet your match with light, medium, deep, or translucent.

My Review:

A lot of the reviews I read on this one mentioned that the accompanying brush applicator was cumbersome. That if often broke or clogged, there by wasting product. So I decided to purchase the refill of the powder and use my own powder brush.

The powder is light and dusts on easily, but I wouldn’t necessarily say that this is invisible. I definitely feel like it was obvious that I was wearing something when I applied this. I asked my husband if it looked like I was wearing makeup and he said no, but to me it was obvious that I had something on.

It didn’t feel heavy on the skin but to me it was noticeable. Also, this is supposed to blur but I didn’t feel like it did that. I felt that in some areas it actually settled into fine lines and brought them out even more as opposed to blurring.

And the winner is…

The Supergoop Invincible Setting Powder SPF 45. The main reason I chose this one is the ease of application. I love the idea of this being the last step in your routine, it works great over foundation to set it and give you production. It is also easy to dust on a light coating to reapply your sunscreen later in the day. Something that is hard to do with a cream or lotion when you have foundation, etc. on.

I thought this felt light on the skin, did a nice job of protecting and mattifying skin throughout the day. My only complaint is that appeared to look dry and heavy on the skin. I learned to apply this in lighter applications so it looked more natural.

I think this would be a perfect way to touch up your makeup and sunscreen throughout the day without disturbing your makeup look and that is why it is the clear winner. To hear more about my thoughts on these two, check out the video below.

And stay tuned for the last round and see which sunscreen out of the four I picked is the true winner.
