Ilia Beauty Review

I fell in love with the Kosas Tinted Facial Oil so much that I wanted to try very similar products to see how they stacked up. The next one that I had heard so much about was the Ilia Beauty Super Serum Skin Tint with SPF 40. So I used the Sephora Shade Finder to find my match. I heard that these were on the lighter side, something I also ran into with my Kosas Tinted Facial Oil, so I went a few shades darker than recommended. In addition to the Skin Tint, I purchased a few other products from Ilia Beauty to complete the look and see how they worked for my skin.

As I have mentioned in other posts and videos, I don’t always wear makeup. However, I do suffer from eczema and it can make my skin look red and splotchy. So I have been on the hunt for a great product that evens out my skin, reduces redness, and looks natural (like my skin but better). As you can see from the full review video below, I was having a lot of redness in my skin from a recent eczema flare up, so it was actually the perfect time to film this video and share my review.

So let’s dive into the products!

Ilia Beauty Balmy Days Lip Balm

What They Say:

Kiss dry and chapped lips goodbye with the restorative, rich and moisturizing properties of our Lip Conditioner, Balmy Days. A bedside table favorite that was introduced to our line by overwhelmingly popular request for an untinted lip conditioner. This deeply soothing lip balm is packed with organic goodness and carries a soft, buttery texture that warms on contact and melts into skin.

My Review:

I really love this balm. It smells and feels great. I love the lipstick packaging so it stays protected in my pocket or bag. It seems a little heavy and thick at first, but it melts into the skin very well and does a great job of hydrating and smoothing the lips. I have been carrying this everywhere and you don’t actually need to apply it often as you would most other balms. Definitely a keeper!

Ilia Beauty True Skin Radiant Priming Serum

What They Say:

Bridging the gap between makeup and skincare, ILIA’s True Skin Radiant Priming Serum does more than create a perfect base for makeup application. Utilizing ingredients like Hibiscus Extract, Aloe and Beta-Glucan, this silicone-free primer helps to firm, moisturize and soothe skin, while protecting it from harmful environmental factors that cause aging.

My Review:

I love the idea of skincare and makeup, which seems to be a trend with a lot of brands now. Even Kosas focuses on makeup products that also have amazing skincare benefits. I love the idea of a product doing double duty to both finish my skin as well as adding amazing skincare benefits like hydrating, nourishing, repairing, and protecting.

I actually used this primer three times and didn’t really notice any difference in my skin. Pores didn’t really seem to be minimized as it says. In fact, I think this made them appear more larger. It dries super fast on the skin, so you have to work fast to spread it out. Like most primers it has a tacky/sticky feeling to it, which helps the products you put on top to stay better. Overall, I wasn’t wow’ed by this and will probably be returning it.

Ilia Beauty True Skin Serum Concealer

What They Say:

A clean, medium-coverage concealer with skincare benefits and a featherweight texture that blends seamlessly into skin.

My Review:

Like makeup of any sort, I don’t wear it often. I don’t have a problem with dark circles, but I do have more sunken undereye area. When light hits my undereye area a certain way, the sunken areas can create shadows that look dark. So occasionally, I like to add concealer to brighten up the eye area a bit. And I have been on the hunt for a good concealer to replace my Tarte Shape Tape. So I decided to give this one a try.

I really love the texture, it is a medium coverage that really lightens and brightens the areas you apply it to (see the video below). I read a lot of reviews of this creasing on people, but I didn’t have any issues with that. I applied it over a light eye cream and that always seems to help. While I think the color I got might be too light, it does oxidize over time and looks more natural later on. I love this but might take it back for at least a shade darker. What I have learned from Ilia is definitely go darker than you would expect. In fact, I went darker than I thought with this one, and it still too light.

Ilia Beauty Super Serum Skin Tint with SPF 40

What They Say:

Your tinted SPF will never be the same. This first-of-its-kind formula fuses skincare, makeup, and sun protection into one easy step: a weightless serum that leaves your skin looking like skin. Features SPF 40 coverage with Non-Nano Zinc Oxide to safely shield skin from UVA, UVB, UVC, blue light and infrared rays.

ILIA’s Skin Tint is created with a blend of Hyaluronic Acids, plant-based Squalane, and Niacinamide and evens tone, softens fine lines and imperfections, and dries down to a natural, dewy finish. And this super serum doesn’t stop there: it also creates a natural barrier for your skincare—sealing in hydration, plumping skin, and boosting any antioxidant effectiveness by 200%. Plus, it’s silicone-free, fragrance-free, chemical screen-free, oil-free, non-comedogenic, and safe for sensitive skin. This is SPF, made super.

My Review:

I think this is probably the one product that Ilia is really known for. This was the product I was most interested in and decided to purchase first. I do know many people love this, but for me, it just didn’t work out.

I found it to feel very heavy and greasy on the skin. It definitely has that feeling of applying a really thick SPF product. I don’t think it blended well, looking streaky and cakey on my skin. It didn’t really cover well and I still saw redness and pores coming out. The color, as I already mentioned, was way too light and I went up about two to three shades darker than originally recommended for me. Overall, I just don’t love the way it applies, the texture, the coverage, or the way it felt on my skin.

In addition to that, one of my friends said she tried it and when she took it off, her skin looked splotchy. I also noticed that with my own skin, it looked red, irritated and splotchy. This is definitely going back. In an upcoming Beauty Battle I am reviewing this against the Kosas one so you can hear my thoughts between the two.

Ilia Beauty Soft Focusing Finishing Powder

What They Say:

With a blend of organic powders and oils, our talc-free formula hydrates and softens skin, while taking down shine thanks to a skin-texture, translucent finish. Light as air and milled 5 times (most powders are milled 3), it’s undetectable to the eye and gives a blurred, soft focus finish.

Formulated with skin conditioning aloe, anti-bacterial rosemary, and oil-balancing bamboo to help leave skin’s surface shine-free, but with enough of a lit-from-within luminosity so it looks healthy and glowing.

My Review:

OMG…this texture is so silky and lightweight. It feels like heaven going on the skin. It really does a great job of blurring imperfections on the skin and just making your skin look smooth and flawless. I have tried other blurring powders and this one hands down is the winner.

It even made the Skin Tint look better and reduced the appearance of any lines, imperfections, or pores. LOVE this and it will definitely been something I go back to time and again. As you can tell in the video below it does take some of the greasy look away from the Skin Tint, but still leaves a nice glow, lit from within finish on the skin.

Ilia Beauty DayLite Highlighting Powder

What They Say:

A clean, talc-free finely milled powder that delivers an illuminating golden glow. Buttery soft textures blend easily and can create a subtle shimmer or a more dramatic highlight. Metallic finish adds depth and dimension to high points of face. Includes a built in mirror for easy, on-the-go application.

My Review:

This is probably one of the best bronzers I have used. The texture and finish is so light that it looks so natural. It also does a great job of giving that lit from within glow we all want. I could see this working really well as a contour powder as well if you went with a darker shade. It didn’t look too dark, un-natural, or orangey as most bronzers tend to look upon application. This is perfect!

Ilia Beauty Essential Brow Gel

What They Say:

Natural volumizing brow gel. Thickens, fills and sculpts brows into place. Available in 3 universally flattering shades. A buildable, tinted brow gel that offers soft, flexible hold without the shine. A blend of clean ingredients and organic botanicals conditions brows with a light, creamy formula that doesn’t stiffen or flake.

My Review:

From years of sculpting my eyebrows, I do have some areas (particularly the tails) that look a little sparse. On occasion, I like to fill them in and use brow gels instead of pencils. I like they also groom and hold the brow shape in place.

While at first I was unsure about this one because the brush bristles are so big and oddly shaped, it actually is pretty amazing. It looks super natural, grooms and shapes the brows, and holds everything in place. It takes some getting used to the brush, but once you get the hang of how to use it and control the application, it looks perfect. I am definitely keeping this one in my grooming rotation.

Ilia Beauty Lip Wrap Hydrating Mask

What They Say:

An ultra-hydrating lip mask that wraps lips in clean, skin-soothing ingredients. Keep Lip Wrap Hydrating Mask on your nightstand and apply before bed for a dose of soothing hydration as you wind down from your day.

Create a ritual for thoroughly hydrated lips with ILIA Lip Wrap Hydrating Mask. This restorative lip mask’s cushiony formula hugs lips with active levels of moisture-boosting Salicornia (Sea Succulent) and plumping Hyaluronic Acid. Antioxidant-rich Mango Butter nourishes skin on contact and helps to soften lips over time. Papaya Enzymes gently exfoliate, clearing the way for reparative actives to sink in. With every use, lips instantly feel soothed and hydrated.

My Review:

I love a good lip mask and this one is no exception! The texture is rich and deeply hydrating. I love the minty smell it has, and the finish is light but beautiful looking glossy finish. I have actually been using this throughout the day as a lip balm/treatment and I just love it.

In addition to the hydrating and soothing ingredients, the Papaya enzymes really help to smooth the texture of the lips by gently exfoliating. Loving this one!

In summary, you can see that the skin tint was the only thing I really didn’t like. All of the other products are truly amazing and I will be keeping them in my skincare/beauty routine. To hear more of my thoughts and see how the products applied to my skin, check out the video below.
